1997-12-05 Keith Holmes w rsc 11 Paul Vaden, The Amphitheatre, Pompano Beach, Florida, USA - WBC. Referee: Brian Garry. The champion quickly gained control, landing solidly with southpaw right jabs, and in the fourth round he had the lanky Vaden over twice. Although Vaden (158) came back well in the next two sessions he was badly cut over the left eye in the seventh and while gamely making it into the 11th when Holmes (157¼) opened up it was all over. Beating Vaden to the punch, Holmes crashed in five heavy blows from both hands, the final one sending his challenger to the boards, whereupon the referee called a halt immediately on the 1.11 mark without bothering to pick up the count.
