1997-12-06 Luisito Espinosa w rsc 6 Carlos Rios, South Cotabato Stadium, Manila, Philippines - WBC. Referee: Jay Nady. An all-action affair saw the heavy-hitting champion open a cut over the right eye of Rios (125½) in the opening round before smashing in a tremendous right-hand counter, which dropped the latter heavily. In the second, Espinosa (125½) was butted several times and despite being given a one-minute rest he was lucky to survive the session before coming back with a bang in the third. Dropped heavily in the third and fifth sessions, Rios tried to outrun Espinosa in the sixth, but when he was driven in to a corner and was taking too much punishment the referee finally rescued him on the 1.29 mark.
