1997-12-19 Naseem Hamed w co 4 Kevin Kelley, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBO. Referee: Benjy Esteves Jr. Coming to America with a big reputation, the flaws in the champion’s defence were exposed as early as the first round when he got nailed by a big right and was dropped. The second round saw both on the floor, and both had good spells in the third before the fight really took off in the fourth when Hamed (126) dumped Kelley (125½) heavily with a big left hand. Back on his feet, even though Kelley had not properly recovered he managed to somehow floor a wildly lunging Hamed who was looking for the finishing blow. But that was to be Kelley’s last success. With Hamed coming back stronger than ever, he landed a terrific left hook to the body, a punch that knocked all the stuffing out of Kelley and saw him counted out with 33 seconds of the round remaining.
