1997-12-19 Thulani Malinga w pts 12 Robin Reid, Docklands Arena, Millwall, London, England - WBC. Referee: John Keane. Scorecards: 117-113, 115-114, 117-112. Putting his title on the line for the fourth time, Reid (167½) blew his chances of a unification opportunity when boxing way below his best and losing to the 42-year-old Malinga (166), who hardly deserved to get his championship honours back. Even switching to southpaw for a few rounds failed to bring any improvement in Reid’s work and it was only in the final session that he came to life. Unbeaten after 25 fights and one draw, Reid rarely landed solidly and even when forcing Malinga down in the ninth he failed to follow up.
