1998-02-14 Ahmed Katejev w pts 12 Leonard Townsend, Wandsbek Sports Hall, Stuttgart, Germany - WBO. Referee: Joe Cortez. Scorecards: 116-109, 119-106, 117-110. In a battle for the title vacated by Michael Loewe, Katejev (146¼) proved too good for Townsend (146¾) and as early as the first round he had the American on the deck before being lucky to escape with nothing more than a warning when hitting him while he was on one knee taking the count. An excellent counter puncher, Katejev lost just two rounds, the fifth and the 11th, and apart from those two sessions was always one step ahead of Townsend, who was down again in the 12th. Katejev also had a point deducted for low blows in that session, although it hardly made a difference to the scoreline.
