1998-02-28 Steve Johnston w pts 12 George Scott, Bally’s Park Place Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Lupe Garcia. Scorecards: 119-107, 118-109, 118-109. Boxing superbly on the retreat the champion constantly caught Scott (135) with solid right jabs and hooks before sliding away to slip punches and counter to the head and body. By the seventh the body shots had begun to wear Scott down and in the eighth he was dropped after Johnston (134¼) landed a cracking right hook to the jaw. Back in action after taking the mandatory ‘eight’, Scott continued to take the fight to his fellow southpaw, but at times was outscored at the rate of four to one as Johnston let his punches go, especially the left cross. Although Johnston went all out in the final session, the gritty Scott made it to the bell with his head held high.
