1998-03-27 [[Richie Woodhall]] w pts 12 [[Thulani Malinga]], Ice Rink, Telford, England - WBC. Referee: Bob Logist. Scorecards: 118-110, 117-111, 109-118. Taking the fight to his challenger from the off, Malinga (167¾) gave it his best shot before being comprehensively outboxed. Not interested in getting into a war, Woodhall (166¼) stayed cool throughout, sticking the left jab out time and again, and refused to let solid body blows deter him from the task ahead. Dropped in the third round by more of a push than a punch, Malinga never took a backward step and when Woodhall was cut over the left eye in the fourth he battled on with renewed confidence. It was only in the eighth that Woodhall began to outpunch the South African, but unable to find a winning blow he had to be satisfied with the points win.
