1998-04-18 Herbie Hide w rsc 1 Damon Reed, Nynex Arena, Manchester, England - WBO. Referee: Rudy Battle. In one of the fastest ever finishes for the weight division, the champion had Reed (199) down from a left hook almost before the fight had started and the majority watching may well have thought that was it for the night. Getting up at ‘seven’ and given more time than normally allowed by a benevolent referee, Reed was immediately caught by a right-left combination before hanging on to Hide (219) as if his life depended on it. At that point it was clearly seen that Reed had a terrible horizontal cut under his left eye and without further ado the referee stopped the fight with just 55 seconds on the clock.
