1998-05-09 [[Juan Domingo Cordoba]] w pts 12 [[Sandro Orlando Oviedo]], Youth Sports Club, Santiago Del Estero, Argentina - WBO. Referee: Carlos Roldan. Scorecards: 119-111, 117-113, 117-111. Defending his title for the first time, against a fellow Argentinian, Cordoba (107¾) was way out in front coming into the seventh round. Sensing that he had to do more, Oviedo (107¼) charged into his rival, throwing punches from both hands, and gave himself more of a chance following a clash of heads that left Cordoba with a badly cut right eye. However, good corner work kept Cordoba in the fight, and from that point on he kept out of the close-quarter exchanges while continuing to land the better punches to win comfortably on the cards.
