1998-05-29 [[Carlos Gonzalez]] w rsc 9 [[Giovanni Parisi]], Bpa Sports Palace, Pesaro, Italy - WBO. Referee: Jose Rivera. Having been unlucky to come away with just a draw when challenging Parisi (138½) two years earlier, Gonzalez (139) meant to get his hands on the title this time round and he started fast, taking the first three rounds on the cards. It was important that Gonzales cut down the ring to give the champion less space to work in and although Parisi came back well in the fourth and fifth, the Mexican picked it up again in the sixth. In the seventh Parisi was knocked down by a terrific right uppercut and although he shared the next session he was all at sea in the ninth before advising the referee that he could not continue on the 2.14 mark.
