1998-05-30 Laurent Boudouani w pts 12 Guillermo Jones, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 116-112, 115-113, 111-117. Having had a close call against Jones (154) last time out, the champion knew what he was up against this time round and prepared accordingly despite giving away four of the first five rounds as he kept on the move in order to avoid the long jab. Boudouani (153½) began to come into the fight more from the sixth as he found a way to block Jones’ jab and in the eighth he shook the Panamanian up with heavy blows to the head. From thereon Boudouani was outpunching the tiring Jones, who was doing more stalking than fighting, at the rate of 2-1 and in the 11th and 12th the latter was badly hurt by overarm rights to the head and solid combinations. How one of the judges could score so widely in favour of Jones was a mystery.
