1998-06-05 [[Luis Ramon Campas]] w rsc 11 [[Pedro Ortega]], Municipal Auditorium, Tijuana, Mexico - IBF. Referee: Gwen Adair. Once again making a slow start, Campas (153¼) had pulled himself together by the second round and was already beginning to make inroads into the challenger, using his left lead to set up heavy right crosses. In the third session both men took heavy shots, but while Ortega (151) was proving to be most durable he was beginning to ship a lot of punishment. Badly cut around the left eye, Ortega took a terrible pounding in the eighth and looked to be on his way out but somehow, calling up all of his reserves, he managed to make it into the 11th. At this stage Campas had almost become too tired of hitting the brave Ortega, but picking it up again he surged in with such ferocity that after just 52 seconds the female referee felt fully justified in rescuing a man who just would not quit.
