1998-06-13 Freddie Norwood w rsc 8 Genaro Rios, Trump Taj Mahal Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Joe Cortez. It did not take too long for the champion to assert himself, and following an uneventful first round he put Rios (125) down with a straight left to the jaw after warming his foe up with hard rights to the body. With it looking as though Rios would not be around much longer he surprised Norwood (126) by regaining his confidence, even winning the sixth when continually firing his right lead over the latter’s guard. Unfortunately for Rios fatigue then set in. Looking distinctly weary he was pulled out by the referee at 1.05 of the eighth after he had taken a solid left to the face and touched down.
