1998-07-18 [[Roy Jones Jr]] w pts 12 [[Lou Del Valle]], MSG Theatre, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - WBA/WBC. Referee: Jim Santa. Scorecards: 118-109, 118-109, 119-108. Fighting to decide two titles, Jones (175) stormed to the front, winning the opening seven rounds, before running into a tremendous southpaw left to the head in the eighth that dropped him for the first time in his pro career. The battle-hardened Del Valle (175), who had been cut over the left eye by an accidental head butt in the seventh, was unable to get to Jones again and went down by a wide points margin. While Jones proved he could take a punch, having got up at the count of ‘four’ in the eighth, Del Valle showed his gameness when continuing to come forward to get his punches off and never allowing himself to be forced back regardless.
