1998-09-05 [[Takenori Hatakeyama]] w pts 12 [[Yong-Soo Choi]], Ryogoku Sumo Arena, Tokyo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Mitch Halpern. Scorecards: 116-113, 116-113, 114-114. Having made a probing start, Choi (130) was soon into his usual buzzsaw attack and took the second and third rounds before Hatakeyama (130) picked it up in the fourth when throwing a steady barrage of blows at the almost pedestrian champion. The fight really took off from that point, but by the eighth Choi seemed to be in control. However, with Choi beginning to fade in the tenth, Hatakeyama began to come on strong with flurries of blows and when his rival had a point deducted in the 11th for going low it encouraged him further. The final session saw the challenger maintaining the pressure, while Choi tried in vain to get something out of the contest.
