1998-10-10 James Page w co 2 Andrei Pestryaev, Bercy Sports Palace, Paris, France - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. Four days prior to this match going ahead for the vacant title, a New Jersey judge had ruled that the number two contender, Jose Luis Lopez, should be involved in any championship contest, but luckily for all concerned a French judge overruled that decision on the eve of the fight. Economical in style, Pestryaev (146¾) started by staying out of range before making an attack, but was soon in trouble as Page (145½), concentrating on heavy, single shots, had him over with three solid blows to the head just before the bell ended the first round. Now there was no hiding place for Pestryaev and after he was countered with a tremendous left hook to the jaw he crashed over to be counted out after 45 seconds.
