1998-10-24 Sven Ottke w pts 12 Charles Brewer, Phillips Arena, Dusseldorf, Germany - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 115-113, 116-112, 111-117. Unbeaten in 12 contests, Ottke (166¾) started well, sending in rapid combinations before moving away and making the champion miss. Eventually, Brewer (168) stepped it up but had difficulty in catching the fast-moving German with solid punches before becoming more and more frustrated when finding his extra power being negated. It was always close and if Brewer had won the final session instead of coasting, believing he had already won, he would have retained his title on the basis of a drawn verdict.
