1998-10-30 Cesar Bazan w pts 12 Mauro Lucero, Municipal Arena, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico - WBC. Referee: Jose Medina. Scorecards: 116-112, 115-113, 115-115. Having dropped down a weight, Lucero (132½) proved to be a tough customer and although the champion got away well in the earlier sessions the latter was always pressing. It was a scrappy and untidy affair with plenty of mauling and it made for difficult scoring. As the fight wore on and Bazan (135) tired it became even more gruelling as Lucero looked to get inside, but despite the latter winning four of the last six rounds it was not enough.
