1998-12-12 Juan Carlos Gomez w rsc 2 Rodney Gordon, Ball Sports Hall, Frankfurt, Germany - WBC. Referee: Luis Carlos Guzman. The champion had been matched to meet a fellow southpaw in England’s Rob Norton, but when the latter pulled out with flu Gordon (190) was quickly substituted. Clearly out of his depth Gordon was soon under attack, and towards the end of the opening session a solid left from Gomez (190) dropped him, reportedly fracturing his skull. Coming out for the second Gomez bided his time as the unfortunate Gordon was forced to endure further pain before a cracking left to the head sent him down to be counted out with 41 seconds of the session remaining.
