1999-01-16 Roberto Garcia w pts 12 Juan Molina, MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Mitch Halpern. Scorecards: 115-112, 115-112, 115-112. Making his first defence, Garcia (129½), cut on his right eye in the third, built up a strong lead with solid combinations and it wasn’t until round nine that Molina (130) began to make his run for home when tearing into the champion furiously. Although subjecting Garcia to an all-out attack for the remainder of the fight it wasn’t until the 12th, when a cracking right to the jaw dropped the champion on the seat of his pants, that he had some visible success. Once back on his feet, Garcia was forced to absorb heavy blows to head and body as Molina went for the kill and even though the champion was docked a point for low blows he held his own in what was a 10-8 round.
