1999-02-20 [[Felix Trinidad]] w pts 12 [[Pernell Whitaker]], Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - IBF. Referee: Benji Esteves. Scorecards: 118-109, 117-110, 118-109. Although the challenger fought bravely against the odds, after being floored in the second by a countering right from Trinidad (147) and damaging his jaw in the sixth, ultimately, it was just too big a bridge to cross. Fighting with much skill and courage, Whitaker (147) gave as good as he got in the opening four sessions, but then faded after taking some hefty shots in the fifth and sixth sessions. Whitaker did come back with a jolting counter in the seventh, but was almost overwhelmed on occasion as Trinidad, throwing solid rights, put in a spurt that took him through to the final bell.
