1999-02-27 Stevie Johnston w pts 12 Cesar Bazan, Miccosukee Indian Gaming Casino, Miami, Florida, USA - WBC. Referee: Tommy Kimmons. Scorecards: 115-112, 114-113, 113-116. As in the first contest between the pair this one went to the wire after Johnston (134½) appeared to win by a fair margin, but again with so much mauling and brawling it was difficult to score. Although the lanky Bazan (134½) started well with stiff jabs, Johnston boxed well on the counter, bobbing in and out while using solid southpaw lefts to surprise a champion who at times was too mechanical and upright. Despite having a much longer reach, Bazan was unable to make it work to his advantage as Johnston, who finished with a badly gashed left eye, controlled much of the action and had an excellent tenth in which he blazed away with all manner of punches. There seemed to be no doubt in the eyes of two judges that Bazan won the last two sessions, but it was Johnston who landed the most hurtful blows during the last six minutes and he took deservedly took the decision.
