1999-05-08 Sven Ottke w pts 12 Gabriel Hernandez, Phillips Arena, Dusseldorf, Germany - IBF. Referee: Sam Williams. Scorecards: 118-110, 118-110, 119-109. Despite Hernandez (165¼) bringing a sharp left jab to the proceedings, he was too one dimensional and lacked the power to hurt the champion. For round after round, Ottke (167½) built up a good lead, shooting in jabs and fast combinations, but at no time did he ever look like winning inside the distance and had to settle for a wide points victory. At this stage of his career, Hernandez, with just 15 bouts under his belt, lacked the know-how required to succeed at championship level.
