1999-05-15 [[Cesar Soto]] w pts 12 [[Luisito Espinosa]], Equestrian Arena, El Paso, Texas, USA - WBC. Referee: Laurence Cole. Scorecards: 116-114, 115-114, 116-113. Starting at a furious pace, Soto (126) went after the champion from the opening bell, rocking him with a great left hook to the head, and continuing to look for a decider for seven rounds before getting pegged back in the eighth. It was then that Espinosa (126) began getting home with good combinations, while if not too damaging they certainly broke up Soto’s rhythm. Coming into the last two sessions, Soto, having sprained his left hand early on was still in front, but with Espinosa failing to influence the judges it was the Mexican who landed the hardest punches of the round to take the title.
