1999-05-29 Freddie Norwood w pts 12 Antonio Cermeno, Roberto Clemente Coliseum, San Juan, Puerto Rico - WBA. Referee: Luis Pabon. Scorecards: 116-111, 115-112, 112-116. Winning back the title that he never lost in the ring delighted Norwood (125½), but the fight certainly did not delight the fans who were forced to endure 12 rounds of little action as both men behaved more like dance partners than protagonists in a boxing ring. For a champion, Cermeno (125½) did very little correct punching, hit below the belt far too often, and was the main offender as he frustrated Norwood with his holding tactics. It was certainly a difficult fight to score, with two judges giving Norwood eight rounds due to his better quality early on, while all three judges had him losing the last three sessions as Cermeno desperately tried to turn the fight round.
