1999-05-29 [[Lehlo Ledwaba]] w pts 12 [[John Michael Johnson]], Carousel Hotel & Casino, Hammanskraal, South Africa - IBF. Referee: Lulama Mtya. Scorecards: 116-112, 115-113, 116-112. Following on from [[Vuyani Bung]]’s decision to vacate, Ledwaba (121½) and Johnson (120¾) came together to contest the vacant title and it was the fleet-footed South African, fighting on home territory, who won through. Although Johnson pressed hard he was rarely able to catch his rival, who doubled up the jab and had little difficulty landing with his speciality punch - the left hook. With the American looking lively in the latter stages, Ledwaba was forced to box on the back foot to secure his lead before coming back strongly to safeguard the win.
