1999-06-26 Stevie Johnston w pts 12 Aldo Rios, Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Jay Nady. Scorecards: 117-112, 118-110, 116-112. Although the southpaw champion won easily enough he was never able to subdue Rios (134½), who clutched and held at every opportunity as he continually retreated for round after round. Because he seemed unable to cut the ring down, Johnston (135), whose left eye was cut in the seventh, became more and more agitated and he resorted to lunging in wildly without success. Having been caught by solid right uppercuts in the eighth it was obvious that Johnston had to do better and he came on strongly in the last three sessions, rocking Rios with a big left in the 11th, while making sure there were no more slip ups.
