1999-06-27 Lakva Sim w rsc 5 Takenori Hatakeyama, Ariake Coliseum, Tokyo, Japan - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. Starting with a jab-and-move routine against the powerful Mongolian challenger, Hatakeyama (130) boxed his way through the opening rounds, but towards the end of the third he was beginning to get caught by some heavy left-right combinations. In the fourth, the aggressive Sim (130) came to the fore as Hatakeyama’s leads became almost ineffective and the champion was badly shaken up by a right uppercut before the bell. Charging out for the fifth in a bid to finish matters, Sim worked his rival over on the inside before opening up with a powerful left-right to the jaw that dropped him. Back on his feet, Hatakeyama, now looking extremely groggy, was immediately pinned on the ropes as punches came in from all angles and at 1.46 of the round he was pulled out by the referee.
