1999-07-16 [[David Reid]] w pts 12 [[Kevin Kelly]], Boardwalk Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Tony Orlando. Scorecards: 116-111, 115-112, 116-111. Looking to finish early, Reid (153) was soon on the attack, opening up with solid left-rights, but he found his challenger a difficult foe to tie down as he flitted around the ring away from the danger zone. What was even more worrying for Reid was that despite four operations to repair a drooping left eyelid he was still finding it difficult to focus and in the fifth Kelly (153) took advantage of this dilemma when putting the champion down with a wide left hook. Although he was quickly on his feet, with his left eye closing fast Reid began to fight with some urgency and while he assumed control and landed some solid shots he was still having difficulty pinning Kelly down. The last three sessions became a nightmare for the champion as Kelly went for the win, jarring Reid up a couple of times before the latter steadied himself to make it safely to the final bell.
