1999-07-17 Juan Carlos Gomez w rsc 6 Bruce Scott, Phillips Hall, Dusseldorf, Germany - WBC. Referee: Daniel Van De Wiele. Coming in at short notice after just two weeks of training Scott (188½) was no match for the hard-hitting southpaw champion, who not only had the advantages in height and reach but fast hands as well. Having comprehensively outboxed Scott for five rounds, Gomez 188½) went for the finish in the sixth and was punching away without return for a good 30 seconds before the referee decided to call a halt with 14 seconds of the session remaining. Scott was a strange opponent for Gomez, having been well beaten by Johnny Nelson when challenging for the WBO title just two months earlier.
