Making his first defence, Morales (115) showed his southpaw skills to good effect when putting the veteran challenger under pressure from the opening bell and dropping him twice from head and body shots. Certainly, Zamudio (115) gave it his best but was outgunned, and having been cut above the right eye in the seventh, with the damage worsening in the eighth, the referee called it off prior to the ninth round getting underway.
