1999-08-20 Paul Spadafora w pts 12 Israel Cardona, Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort, Chester, West Virginia, USA - IBF. Referee: Dave Johnson. Scorecards: 119-108, 120-108, 119-109. Following Shane Mosley’s decision to move on, Spadafora (135) and Cardona (132½) came together to contest the vacant title and it was the former who came through to win widely on points after showing his hand speed and superior skill to good advantage. A southpaw to boot, the busy Spadafora was just too much for the limited Cardona, who relied too much on his punching power and lacked the ability to catch up with the local man. Although he occasionally came alive when going for the body, Cardona was totally outworked and the decision in Spadadora’s favour was a formality.
