1999-10-23 [[Markus Beyer]] w pts 12 [[Richie Woodhall]], Ice Rink, Telford, England - WBC. Referee: Lawrence Cole. Scorecards: 115-113, 115-111, 114-113. Floored three times, once in the opening round and twice in the third, the champion appeared to have nowhere to go, but after winning the sixth and seventh and the last three sessions he closed the gap before going down on a majority decision. Even though the gap closed as Woodhall (167¾), carrying a broken nose and cut over both eyes, tried to box his way out of trouble, the German southpaw continued to be dangerous with heavy left hooks. The last two sessions saw Woodhall fighting like a man possessed and although the rapidly tiring Beyer (166¾) somehow held on for all his worth had the referee taken a point away from him in the 12th the contest would have been ruled a draw.
