1999-11-27 [[Armand Krajnc]] w rsc 8 [[Jason Matthews]], Hanse Hall, Lubeck, Germany - WBO. Referee: James Condon. Making his first defence, Matthews (160) had expected to meet [[Bert Schenk]], who was still claiming to be the champion, but when the German ruptured an Achilles tendon in his right ankle Krajnc (158¾) was drafted in. Having started brightly, Matthews was forced back and dropped after taking several left hooks and although fighting back he was way down on the cards at the end of the fourth. In the fifth and sixth, however, Matthews outworked Krajnc before his right eye began to suddenly swell. From there onwards Matthews was right up against it and when Krajnc was rocking him with all manner of punches going in, at 1.45 of the eighth the referee called the fight off.
