2000-05-20 [[Felix Machado]] drew 12 [[Julio Gamboa]], Grand Casino, Tunica, Mississippi, USA - IBF. Referee: Elmo Adolph. Scorecards: 111-116, 115-114, 114-114. Originally scheduled to take place on 3 March, Machado (113½) and Gamboa (113) were contesting the title that was vacated following the stripping of [[Marc Johnson]] and after 12 rounds of boxing the championship was still vacant, although a rematch was ordered in the aftermath. That aside, it was an exciting fight and while Gamboa was the bigger puncher of the two it was Machado, a southpaw, who scored the only knockdown, a long left hook to the head doing the damage in the fourth. Both men continued to give it everything and if it had not been for two points being deducted from Machado for misdemeanours, the championship would have been his at the first time of asking.
