2000-07-22 Ener Julio w pts 12 Randall Bailey, American Airlines Arena, Miami, Florida, USA - WBO. Referee: Max Parker. Scorecards: 113-111, 114-111, 111-115. It was a strange start for the champion as he missed Julio (139¾) consistently before being knocked down by a left hook in the opening session. However, Bailey (139) had got himself back in the fight by the sixth and dropped Julio heavily from a right to the head, but the latter then showed remarkable recuperative powers when up and continued to land his left lead almost at will. By the ninth, Bailey, his right eye closed, was tiring but he still found a big right to drop Julio towards the end of the session. It turned out to be Bailey’s last opportunity, as the Columbian got up and carried on as if nothing had happened before hitting back with some venom to win the last three rounds clearly, even though he had a point deducted in the 11th for holding and hitting. Julio forfeited the WBO version of the title in June 2001 when it was discovered that he had cataracts in both eyes immediately prior to a championship defence against Felix Flores.
