2001-01-06 Joel Casamayor w rsc 9 Roberto Garcia, Texas Station Gambling Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Kenny Bayless. Having surprisingly built up a lead over the southpaw champion, the bustling Garcia (129½) eventually ran foul of heavy punches tossed in during the sixth and ended the round with his right eye cut and lucky to make it to his stool. Deducted a point in that period for rabbit punching, Casamayor (130) tried to pick it up in the seventh, but met with solid resistance as Garcia landed some hurtful blows, including a cracking right to the jaw, to shade the round. Casamayor finally began to take over in the eighth and in the next session, following a terrific shot to the midsection, he began to get his left hook working, flooring Garcia twice before the referee intervened at 1.14 of the ninth.
