2001-01-27 Johnny Nelson w pts 12 George Arias, York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, England - WBO. Referee: Bill Connors. Scorecards: 119-110, 120-108, 120-110. In his seventh defence, Nelson (189¾) once again settled for a clear points win, even after having Arias (189¼) badly hurt in the opening session from an explosive countering right uppercut. Arias was certainly tough and went forward throughout the contest, but although Nelson hit him with some good punches, including some solid body shots in the seventh and eighth, he could not stop the Brazilian’s march. Both men went southpaw at times, but it did little to change the nature of the contest and apart from the tenth when Arias earned a share of the round Nelson was always in control.
