2001-04-28 Joe Calzaghe w rsc 1 Mario Veit, The International Arena, Cardiff, Wales - WBO. Referee: Mark Nelson. Showing all the form expected of him the southpaw champion tore into Veit (167), his 6’4” mandatory challenger, and within 30 seconds he had dropped the German for ‘three’ with a left over the top. Having taken the mandatory ‘eight’ count, Veit was immediately put under further pressure before being floored again after a crunching left from Calzaghe (167¾) detonated on his jaw. Although Ottke got to his feet he was quickly in trouble again and was rescued by the referee when being battered against the ropes, the finish being timed at 1.52 of the opening session.
