2001-05-05 Dariusz Michalczewski w co 9 Alejandro Lakatus, Volkswagen Hall, Braunschweig, Germany - WBO. Referee: Michael Ortega. Once again Michalczewski (175) failed to start well enough when conceding the opening three rounds to a challenger who was not considered to be in his class. The situation changed in the fourth when Michalczewski pulled himself together and by the bell Lakatus (174½) had been slowed up by body shots and was carrying a swollen right eye. By the sixth Michalczewski’s left jab was working well and in the ninth he dropped Lakatus with a combination of blows for the mandatory ‘eight’ before finishing him off with a left hook to the jaw that saw him counted out at 1.35 of the round.
