2001-05-12 Vernon Forrest w pts 12 Raul Frank, Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA - IBF. Referee: Ken Zimmer. Scorecards: 120-108, 118-110, 118-110. In a rematch and contesting the vacant title, Forrest (145¼) became the new champion when winning all rounds bar the fifth, in what was a messy affair. Tall for his weight and fast, Forrest failed to make full use of these advantages, being content to box on the back foot and happy to let Frank (147) come to him. Even when in control Forrest failed to land effectively with right hands, preferring not to take any uneccessary risks against a wild swinging opponent, who although dangerous at close quarters was limited at that level. Bearing in mind that their previous contest had seen one head clash too many, Forrest obviously had good reason not to get involved this time round.

Forrest was stripped of the championship in December after deciding to challenge Shane Mosley for the WBC crown.
