2001-05-26 Floyd Mayweather Jr w pts 12 Carlos Hernandez, Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - WBC. Referee: Dale Grable. Scorecards: 116-111, 117-109, 119-109. Complaining that both his hands were injured the champion put on a dismal display against Hernandez (128½), a huge underdog and a man he was expected to beat rather easily. Although Mayweather (130) occasionally cut loose, Hernandez did not budge and stayed in range, even forcing the former to stumble to the floor in the sixth for what the referee termed a count. Despite the jab finding Hernandez at will on occasion, Mayweather was still unable to maintain any rhythm and although there was only going to be one winner it was not going to be a popular one.
