Making full use of a three-inch reach advantage, the back-pedalling Machado (115) picked up points with the southpaw jab, albeit exhibiting a lack of power. To his credit Pastrana (113) showed great conviction, and although cutting Machado over the right eye in the eighth was unable to break down the champion’s defences.
