2001-07-10 Eric Lucas w rsc 7 Glenn Catley, Molson Centre, Montreal, Canada - WBC. Referee: Lupe Garcia. In a battle for the vacant title, Lucas (167¾) ultimately avenged a previous defeat at the hands of Catley (167¼) when he stopped his old rival at 2.04 of the seventh round. The contest had been relatively even up until the fifth, even though Catley was falling short with jab and being countered heavily for his pains, and in the sixth the writing was on the wall for him when he was twice dropped by heavy rights. Still dazed at the start of the seventh, Catley continued bravely, but after a crashing right to the jaw sent him down with no chance of beating the count the referee immediately brought the contest to an end.
