1 September Veeraphol Sahaprom drew 12 Toshiaki Nishioka, The Arena, Yokohama, Japan - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 113-115, 116-113, 114-114. Putting up an excellent challenge, the southpaw Nishioka (118) only just failed to win the title, the better quality punches being marginally with Sahaprom (118). However, it was close and once the champion suffered a cut right eye in the fourth he had to protect the injury, thus making the task in front of him more difficult.
