2001-12-15 Dariusz Michalczewski w rsc 11 Richard Hall, Estrel Convention Centre, Berlin, Germany - WBO. Referee: Mark Nelson. After starting slowly as usual, Michalczewski (174½) eventually shook Hall (173½) up in the fourth with a series of solid combinations and also got his left jab to work effectively. At that stage of the fight the southpaw challenger was throwing more punches than his rival, but they lacked quality and once his right eye began to swell up in the seventh his days were numbered despite him not being subdued. Even though the referee was continually looking at Hall’s damage, putting him under extra pressure, he appeared to be getting stronger and more dangerous. When the fight came to an end at 1.50 of the 11th after the referee decided that it was too dangerous to let Hall carry on, the latter who had just seen Michalczewski given a breather after being hurt with body shots was rightly furious. While it was clear that Michalczewski thought that he had been hit below the belt, the referee never warned Hall and the latter felt he should have been allowed to fight on.
