2002-02-23 [[Jean-Marc Mormeck]] w rtd 8 [[Virgil Hill]], Sports Palace, Marseilles, France - WBA. Referee: Stan Christodoulou. Having reeled off the opening two rounds with some ease the champion could be forgiven that it was going to be an easy night’s work against the cumbersome Mormeck (185). Clearly, Mormeck had not read the script and from the third onward he literally steamrollered Hill (189¾), who began to go downhill as age finally caught up with him. Advancing from thereon, pounding the body with solid blows from both hands, Mormeck got right on top of Hill, and at the end of the eighth the latter was retired on his stool after being badly cut over the left eye and driven around the ring in that session.
