2002-06-01 Sven Ottke w pts 12 Thomas Tate, Frankenland Hall, Nuremburg, Germany - IBF. Referee: Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 119-108, 118-109, 116-111. In a return match the champion proved to be far too quick and accurate for Tate (168), scoring a second round knockdown following a sharp left-right, and keeping the latter on the end of the jab for much of the time. In the fourth, Tate’s left eye began to swell following the constant attention paid to it by the jab and by the eighth it was bleeding. Towards the end, Tate began to come on strong, but by that time Ottke (168) knew that he was in the driving seat and only had to avoid trouble to make sure of a 14th successful title defence.
