2003-06-28 Joe Calzaghe w rsc 2 Byron Mitchell, The International Arena, Cardiff, Wales - WBO. Referee: Dave Parris. Knocked down for the first time in his career when nailed by a short right hook in the second, Calzaghe (167) was up at ‘eight’ and came back swiftly to belt Mitchell (168) to the canvas with big left. Having also taken the ‘eight’ count, the challenger was immediately set about and driven to the ropes where the referee rescued him after 2.36 of the round had elapsed. This was a good win for the Welshman against a former champion and a man who gave it a real go while it lasted.
