2003-12-13 Cory Spinks w pts 12 Ricardo Mayorga, Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF/WBA/WBC/The Ring. Referee: Earl Morton. Scorecards: 117-110, 114-112, 114-114. In a fight involving four titles Spinks (146) eventually won the majority verdict. However, in so doing he had to rely on Mayorga (146) being deducted two points for hitting after the bell in the fifth and holding behind the head in the 11th. Spinks, who was too slippery and by the far the better stylist of the pair, had to contend with wild rushes from Mayorga throughout, but sticking to his boxing he was often able to bang in countering blows before moving on. According to Mayorga, Spinks should have been counted on at least three times. He certainly had a legitimate case in the last round when Spinks was dropped by a right to the body. Unfortunately for the Nicaraguan, because his style was not always conducive to the rules the officials saw it as being more of a push than a punch.
